EMF: What to Look For and What to Fix

Now this is probably the most intense and technical topic of healthy homes. The reality of it is, EMF is such a beast of a toxin, mostly because it is absolutely everywhere these days, so I think it is very important to control what you can control regarding this topic (if you haven’t watched my membership video on EMF, I highly recommend you do so). And the next thing we will say is to accomplish what we did in our new home, you will need to consult with an EMF-literate electrician because standard run-of-the-mill electricians will not have the experience or expertise in this. Chris with Haven Hills (Mention you are from Dr. Charlie’s community for a discount on service) is who we used and will continue to use in all cases. He is the best of the best and travels nationally to help with home needs. He helped us feel educated and empowered about our home project, and ultimately created a massive sense of safety and confidence in our current home. We couldn’t recommend him enough.

So, after going through multiple home inspections with Chris and then finally buying our current home and watching him work his magic on it, there are key things that we did that would be wise to look into for you and your home.

First, if you are looking to rent or buy a new place, look to see what utility boxes are close to the property and where they are placed (are they on the outside of the wall from your sleeping space?), proximity to power lines, 5G towers, and high-power radio or TV broadcast towers. One website to utilize is antennasearch.com.

Now, after you evaluate these, it really comes down to balancing out magnetic fields, electric fields, radio frequencies (RF), and dirty electricity (DE) within the home. And you want to do this while also being mindful not to block out Earth’s natural frequencies… turning your house into a Faraday cage is not the wisest thing to do.

First is magnetic fields, which 99% of the time come from wiring errors in the home. When wires are not balanced properly, they give off magnetic fields, which is a big distress signal to our physiology. Places where this often happens are by appliances and utility systems like HVAC. It is very important to make sure there are no wiring errors in the walls between sleeping spaces. Sleeping spaces are the absolute priority when it comes to balancing out magnetic fields and EMF for obvious reasons. The hard part about wiring errors is that you really have no idea they are there unless you get someone to test for them. Chris audited all of our breaker panels and went through and fixed them. Afterwards, we installed upgraded panels with GFCI protection so that in the future, whenever anyone does anything electrical (like lighting fixtures or handyman jobs), if they are about to create a wiring error, the breaker will prevent it from happening.

Next is the electrical fields. For this, we put dedicated shielded circuits (outlets) in each bedroom and installed hardwired sleep switches in three of our bedrooms. In areas where we needed to knock through walls for mold remediation and some other remodeling projects, we replaced the plastic Romex wiring with MC (metal-clad) wire, which grounds the electric fields.

For RF, we hard-wired the whole house, which means we have Ethernet cables in every room for any electronic use. Also, all TVs, thermostats, alarm systems, Control4 system, and baby monitors are all hard-wired. We installed direct-connect Ethernet and charging cables for computers and phones in all rooms. So we have the highest speed internet possible with none of the RF. We do have Wi-Fi throughout the house, but it was installed intentionally and zoned based on where we actually need it. We have the control to only turn it on for certain areas to access, if needed. We mainly kept this so if we’re outside in the backyard and want internet access, we can turn on the back porch Wi-Fi and then completely kill it when we don’t need it.

Lastly, for DE, we installed a whole-panel DE filter to reduce DE from the grid and internal sources in the home. One of the biggest sources is dimmable lighting. It is for this reason that we took out all dimmable light features in our home and replaced LED lights with incandescent lights from healthlighting.com (Use code DRCHARLIE for 10% off your purchase). Using these lights is one of the best ways to easily reduce DE in the home. *It’s important to note that when buying light fixtures, you must pay attention to whether they are capable of incandescent lighting or just LED. Sadly, LED is taking over, and it was more time-consuming than we thought to find quality non-LED lighting. Here are some of the fixtures we used.

We know this seems like a lot, and any action step is better than no action step. And especially if you don’t own your property, it doesn’t make sense to do all the things. This is where we would still recommend EMF Grounding Bags. Now that we remediated EMF in our living space, the question has been do we still use the bags. The answer to that is yes, we still use them. One way that we do that everyone could benefit from is putting a large bag over your heart/thymus area and tapping the bag. This will ground you from all of the nnEMF that you pick up in and outside of your home. We still go into public places with massive EMF issues, so grounding bags still serve a massive purpose in your health

More to come as we continue sharing what’s worked in building a healthier home.
